The Osun state government has charged corporative societies to live up to their responsibilities of building economy of the state for sustainable economic development.

Corporative societies, according to the Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Mr Gbenga Awosode, are tools for economic development and wealth creation.


Awosode stated this on Wednesday while addressing cooperative societies at the zonal meeting held at Ikirun and Osogbo.
He disclosed that the Aregbesola’s administration has initiated profiting economic empowerment in line with its Six Integral Action Plan to banish poverty, unemployment in the state and create wealth in the state.

Awosode explained that in order to benefit from the empowerment programmes, the certificate of all the corporative societies would be revalidated to know the functioning and none functioning ones.

According to Awosode, any cooperative society that refused to comply with the revalidation exercise would not benefit from the empowerment scheme.

He reassured cooperators that the revalidation exercise was not a meant to collect tax but to sensitise people to their civil obligations.

Awosode enjoined cooperative societies to support the government in its drive to improve the economy of the state and to regularly make known to the ministry all challenges affecting the smooth operation of their societies.
