WEEK REVIEWS: SEPT. 2021, WEEK 3

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13

The Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, All Progressives Congress (APC) News Online, Dr. Tom Ohikere lauded the huge investment of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on education sector in the State, describing Osun as one of the leading light in the promotion of education in the country.

He also commended the Governor for prioritising education and giving the sector the prime place as the bedrock of socioeconomic development of the State, saying that Osun has become a reference point in basic education system in Nigeria.

Ohikere stated this when was led on an inspection tour of some school infrastructural projects undertaken by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), by The Executive Chairman, Osun SUBEB, Hon. Israel Ajibola Famurewa.

 

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola joined his colleagues in Enugu at the meeting of the Southern Governors’ Forum where they looked at the current state of the nation and also reviewed progress of implementation of decisions reached at previous meetings of the Forum. The Forum expressed satisfaction with the rate at which states within the region have been enacting the anti-open grazing law and encouraged states who are yet to enact the law to do so as soon as possible.

On the raging controversy over Value Added Tax (VAT), the Forum unanimously supported the position and court ruling that assigned its collection to state governments and also advocated full operationlisation of already agreed regional security outfits and encouraged the outfits to meet, collaborate and share intelligence to enhance security of lives and property within the Southern part of the country.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

The State Commissioner for Finance, Bola Oyebamiji, clarified in. a statement that the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has not received the sum of N48b from the Federal Government as refund on federal roads constructed within the State. He disclosed that the total contract sum is N38b.

According to him, the total refund by the FG to the state as at today, in three tranches, stand at NI1.9bn based on the project delivered by the contractors.

The Commissioner revealed that the refund was expended on four road projects inherited from the previous administration as against claim by a former Commissioner for Home Affairs in Osun, Mr Sikiru Ayedun, that the refund was being used to pay full salaries to civil servants in the state.Received, well noted.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

The Government of the State of T Osun presented the State’s audited financial accounts for the fiscal year 2020.

The audited financial reports were made public as part of efforts to keep citizens informed of the State’s financial situation, demonstrate prudence in the management of resources, and, as a result, strengthen the Administration’s existing public trust and confidence.

The audited accounts presented by the State Auditor-General, Mr. Folorunso Adesina, revealed an astronomical increase in the State Internally Generated Revenue from 2018 to 2020, with a total of N13,805,843,339.25 generated in 2018, N17,720,122,360.44 generated in 2019, and N19,642,333,010.68 generated in 2020.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor of the State of Osun, has urged newly graduated students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) to begin using the skills they learned during their studies to change the world.

According to Oyetola, the institution has provided them with the necessary entrepreneurial skills in addition to their courses of study in order for them to compete in the knowledge and technology-driven world.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23

Prominent Nigerians from all walks of life descended on Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, to congratulate the state’s government and people as the state concluded its 30th anniversary celebration with awards presented to distinguished citizens.

Even as Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola urged citizens to put their collective strength to work,

Regardless of their political differences and sentiments, they believe that state building is a collective enterprise for a better tomorrow.

Oyetola described the event as symbolic and urged citizens to continue working with the government to achieve the promised and already delivered sustainable development.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

On Saturday, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola attended Fidau prayers for Alhaja Aishat Shittu, mother of Osun Amotekun Corps Field Commander, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, alongside his wife, Alhaja Kafayat, and other cabinet members.

 

The Governor expressed his condolences to Comrade Amitolu and the entire Shittu family on the loss of their matriarch. He thanked Allah for Mama’s long life and prayed that He grant her Aljana Firdaus and give the family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss. See detail here.
