The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Intelligence Response Team, IRT, of the Aba Area Command, Aba, Abia State, has apprehended some members of a kidnapping ring that murdered a 37-year-old business executive, Uzoma Daniel, after stealing N700,000 from his wife.

We believe Daniel to have been kidnapped as he drove into his compound in Aba’s Ngwa neighborhood. The kidnappers, however, killed him at Ntighauzo in the state’s Obingwa council area, after promising to release him after negotiating with his family.

Nemesis, according to reports, caught up with the group when they were on their way to collect another N300,000 from the deceased’s wife, despite the fact that they had killed her husband.

The IGP IRT squad sprung into action after receiving a tip and captured the kidnappers as the deceased’s wife proceeded to deliver the ransom at the place requested by the kidnappers.

Pump-action and one locally built short-double-barrel gun were among the items taken from the gang.

The deceased’s Toyota Lexus 330 vehicle, which the kidnappers used to bring him to their den, is still missing, according to police sources.

“Based on what we’ve learned, the suspects followed him around on a commercial tricycle. They drove into his compound just as he (dead) was ready to do so. They drove out down the Ngwa road axis after ordering him back to his jeep.

“As soon as we received the information, we leaped into action and followed the wife without her knowledge. We apprehended them as she was about to drop the second round of ransom, worth roughly N300,000, after she had paid them N700,000. We apprehended them and were taken to their camp in the jungle at Ntighauzo in Obingwa LGA, where the man’s body was dumped.”

During interrogation, the kidnappers admitted that Daniel was slain by a member of the gang who had been assigned to protect him while they went to collect the initial N700,000 ransom.

When questioned, he claimed that the late businessman fought him and bit his finger, prompting him to shoot him to death, according to police sources.
