The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), comprised of 13 state chief executives, is meeting today in Abuja to discuss a number of pressing issues affecting the political party.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the forum’s Director General, C.I.D Maduabum, the chairman and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, agreed to convene the meeting after consulting with his colleagues.
The brief statement reads, “The Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in consultation with his colleagues, has called an emergency meeting of the forum for Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.” The meeting will go over the latest developments in the PDP.
“The governors urged all PDP members and stakeholders to be patient as efforts are made to ensure the party’s continued stability in the coming days.”
According to sources, the meeting became necessary in order to resolve the party’s leadership crisis as soon as possible.
The gathering would make the final decision on the date of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Suleiman Nazif, the PDP’s Deputy National Chairman (North), announced on Tuesday that the NEC meeting would take place tomorrow.
“One of the issues that aggravated the suspended National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, was his failure to convene the NEC meeting.”
